Total piece of junk don't waste your money

We've had this dishwasher for about 4 years give or take. It stopped cleaning the dishes after about year. We've already had to replace the heating element, inlet valve and the circulation pump (the most recent repair). After replacing the pump it worked for ONE DAY and now it won't drain. We're at the point where it's cheaper to buy a new one. It won't be a Whirlpool.

Have replaced the motor once and heating element
baspinwall
10/29/2019
Purchased in 2016. The motor had to be replaced within a year. The heating element was just replaced as well. Whirlpool did not cover the labor for these repairs. I also own a WhirlPool refrigerator, purchased 3 years ago, and the motor had to be replaced in that. Whirlpool makes low quality appliances. They do not stand behind their product. I recommend avoiding this company completely and I will personally never purchase another product with the Whirlpool badge on it.

Want to love it but cycle time long & plastic wet
Lizard1234
9/2/2019
This model was installed during the renovations before we bought the house so it is approximately two to three years old. The normal cycle time is 3.5 hours and even then some of the silverware isn't clean if the "peanut butter" is not prescrubbed. The plastics are rarely dry - even with a rinse aid and Cascade total pods. We keep our baby bottle drying rack out just for the plastic cups. It has good capacity and rack flexibility. The pump died yesterday so we are replacing it instead of fixing it because of the other issues.

Motor failure in 4 years, not worth fixing the piece of junk. Some customers still look for quality, so I will replace with another brand, Whirlpool.

Problems from the VERY beginning with the computer panel. I really don't see why a machine that essentially sprays water needs a computer, but maybe that's just me. The machine died in the first few weeks, so repair was free of charge, so that is good. However, we've had the same problem three times since then. Always the same, thing--the computer panel just dies and the dishwasher does not work at all. Super frustrating. This is the last time we are repairing it before it goes into a landfill. I honestly can't believe we keep choosing to repair it; my husband wants to toss it off the deck. I wish you better luck if you take a chance on this lemon. It does clean dishes when it's working, but I've always been suspicious of the rinse cycle. More than most dishwashers, the dishes often taste and smell like soap, especially travel mugs. ugh. So gross.

When I first bought it, the motor broke and the door got rust. It was under the one year warranty so both the motor and door got replaced. Still find it strange that the motor is bad on a new machine. Now year 2, it's rust on the door again and the machine doesn't wash the dishes clean. The sope doesn't even dissolve. I use the strongest program and clean the dishes before I put it in the dishwasher. But it's not good enough. Need to wash the glasses afterwards.

My brand new home came with all Whirlpool appliances and as soon as the one year anniversary came for my new house and appliances the dishwasher will not drain.... I hear it washing but when I open it after I let it run completely two-three time and the water still remained undrained. I see why Century Communicties included the appliances with every home BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAP. I look forward to speaking to Whirlpool to see what they are willing to due. I called over a year ago almost soon as it went out and was told that it was out of warranty only to find out the repair is almost more then a new unit.

This dishwasher was in our new home (max 2 years old) and the motor has stopped working. No longer under warranty :( costs the same to replace the motor as to buy a new machine. From reading the other comments here this seems to be a consistent issue but no recall.

Beware - Faulty Motor Pump
MGJK
5/4/2019
I've purchased two of these dishwashers, one for home and another at my workplace. Both are used less than once a day and are well taken care of (filter cleaned, rinse aid, quaility detergent & Affresh tabs used reguarly) and even at it's peak it's cleaning ability was sub-par.
Within 1.5 years both dishwashers needed new dish rack wheels along with tray arms and my one at home needed a new bottom spray arm. All which I replaced out of pocket. Shortly after, the workplace dishwasher stopped working due to the motor-pump and at 2.5 years the one at home broke down for the same reason. A $585.00 fix. They are junk and this is the last Whirlpool dishwasher I will buy. It's sad to see appliances come to a "one time use" type product.

Rust in a matter of months
Ed96706

I bought this dishwasher 3 years ago. Sadly the front door panel is now rusting which is a bit unexpected as I own multiple SS appliances and none look like that.
In terms of washing, it does the job for light to medium dirty dishes. But for heavy dirt, it's not that efficient, despite all the settings this dishwasher offers.
the big pro for me is its decibel. it's quiet at night, and perfect to run any time of the day.

Bought this dishwasher from Lowes 2 years ago during Black Friday along with a 5 year extended warranty and delivery/installation. (I also bought high end Whirlpool refrigerator, range and microwave appliances at the same time so I spent almost $7k). This dishwasher stopped working after just over 2 years so I used the extended warranty for the first time to schedule repair. The service technician said it needed a new wash motor and control panel and submitted the service order to Lowes - Lowes is refusing to repair the dishwasher saying it is too expensive to fix. Their only offer is to give me a refund for the Black Friday price I paid for the dishwasher - I will have to eat the cost for the extended warranty and installation/delivery which was expensive and since it is April, the Black Friday price i paid won't get me anything - I'll have to add hundreds to get a decent dishwasher. Lowes is refusing to honor the warranty and fix the dishwasher or replace it or even refund the warranty. I've tried to escalate this at Lowes but got nowhere - the customer support, service and repair supervisors were rude and unwilling to discuss any other options. This is a nightmare - I have an installed, nonworking dishwasher and will need to spend another $1000 to replace something that I already paid for once. And in the interim, I have no dishwasher... Frustrating. And it looks like from the other reviews, this is a regular problem with this dishwasher.

Broken after three years
Disappointed_user
3/25/2019
We purchased a new home a little over three years ago, which included a new Whirlpool dishwasher. Unfortunately we have had problems with the user interface/main control board (F2-E2 error). We tried to troubleshoot this issue ourselves, including replacing the user interface board and wire connection, which did not solve the problem. We also had a Whirlpool-certified technician come to assess the problem, who confirmed our diagnosis and agreed that the user and wire connection needed to be replaced (which had not worked). We had previously had the same issue arise (when the dishwasher was ~2 years old), but switching off the power and reseating the wire connections had resolved the problem. Unfortunately, this seems to be a long-standing issue that likely cannot be resolved, and if it can, it would cost ~$400 (on top of the $113 we paid for diagnosis) according to the Whirlpool-certified technician. Obviously, paying $500 to get a dishwasher repaired does not seem logical. Given the reputation of Whirlpool, we certainly didn't expect to have a dishwasher that would only last 3 years.

Expect Repairs
Jennifer 19
3/10/2019
We bought our first home and outfitted our kitchen with all new Whirlpool appliances. Our range and refrigerator have required repairs (of course right outside of the 1 year warranty) and now the dishwasher. We're left with 2" dirty water in the bottom after every use. We've tried the drain cycle with no luck. We've checked and cleared the filters and hoses and not a single obstruction.
We are so disappointed in our appliances and the amount of money we've had to invest in them to return them to working order.
Oh, save yourself $100 by making an appointment with an appliance repair person yourself. Whirlpool up charges to make the appointment for you. The repair person they recommend (while under warranty) charges $89.95 to come to my home, while Whirlpool tried to charge $189.95. Not impressed!

For the most part, we have had good experiences with Whirlpool products... Unfortunately, we couldn't say the same about this dishwasher.
After barely a couple of years of service, the machine started throwing error codes related to issues between the mainboard and the controls board.
Understanding that equipment is bound to fail from time to time, our biggest frustration is the poor documentation of codes and the fact that the codes represent a symptom and not a cause, so there is no certainty when looking for replacement parts.

We purchased this dishwasher approximately 2.5 years ago when remodeling our kitchen for the first time in over 20 years. It is sleek, it is quiet, it easy to load. We were very pleased to have paid the extra dollar and chosen this model. In November, however, it completely stopped cleaning. I trouble shot all possible issues until I came to a head and only had the possibility that the actual motor was toast. I called a local appliance repair service out to locate and verify that we were in fact looking at a new (under 3 years old) completely unless appliance that is conveniently out of it's small warranty window. I've contacted Whirpool with no luck of resolution. So now I'm sitting here 4 months later unsure of what to even do. Do I pay to for a new motor and pay to have it installed only to keep my fingers crossed that I'm not just dumping money into a product & brand that will eventually fail me once again? Or do I dump even more money into a new dishwasher with another company? It's disappointing as my previous dishwasher was over 17 years old and had zero problems other than just being an ugly white one. I'm not slamming Whirpool necessarily, I have a 17 yr old Washing machine from them that is excellent with no problems. I simply sharing my disappointment with this product and my entire experience in trying to resolve a faulty appliance.

We loved our dishwasher until we saw the error code E2 F2! Then, found out the main circuit board wasn't getting the power it needed to continue the washing cycle. Parts plus labor was $300+ so we decided to put this money on another machine. We've been believers in Whirlpool before, so we're hoping this doesn't happen again!?

Motor Died after 3 Years

Bought a Whirlpool as an upgrade to our previous lower-grade dishwasher that died after six years. Well, the Whirlpool lasted three years. When the cost to fix the dishwasher is about the initial cost of the actual dishwasher, I would not buy another Whirlpool again after this experience.

Really disappointed in the quality of this dishwasher. I've had it for almost 2 years and am on my 3rd service call now. I've already had some parts replaced from prior service calls. It does NOT wash dishes. The machine takes in some water, dispenses the detergent, seems to transition through the cycles but does not clean dishes at all. This machine has been nothing but a hassle....while all my other Whirlpool kitchen appliances purchased at the same time have worked flawlessly.
The dishwasher does have some good qualities; it's quiet, easy to use/ program, has good capacity and features but it just doesn't wash dishes. :(

We bought this dishwasher when we built our house in 2015. At 2 years and 6 months the dishwasher stopped draining completely. This week (right before Christmas) the pump completely stopped working. I can't believe for the price that we've had so many issues only three years into the life of the dishwasher. For the cost of a new pump we might as well buy a new dishwasher. Will more than likely stay away from Whirlpool

Only lasted 2 years
Kennan
9/24/2018
We bought this dishwasher in February of 2016. It worked well for about 2 years, but in the last few months it only works occasionally. This week, I ran multiple cycles with different detergents and after 4 attempts, I finally had to hand wash the entire load. Sometimes the detergent just drops onto the bottom of the machines and is still visible after the cycle. The process seems to run, but it has just stopped cleaning my dishes. Prior to failing regularly, I usually had to hand wash silverware after a cycle because the 'extra spray' doesn't actually work well. I am quite disappointed that the dishwasher didn't last and that we are already having to look into buying a new one after just 2.5 years. I would not recommend this dishwasher.

CLEANS WELL BUT DURABILITY SUSPECT
Adirondack Mark
9/18/2018
Cleans well but finishing rinse a must. Shelving is cheap plastic. Was broken on arrival and had to be replaced before first use. Days of durable epoxy coated metal seem bygone. Install was done by Costco subs. The sub said never saw a rubber hose used on a dishwasher, only a washing machine. When he pointed out "replace after 5 years" written on the hose, I contacted Costco to see if the correct hose was used. Costco contacted Whirlpool who said it was indeed the right hose. My question was, if I hadn't been there to see the hose and had the installer point it out, how would any consumer possibly know to change the hose after 5 years? The hose is obviously cheaper than copper and by having the "replace after 5 year disclaimer", Whirlpool can wash their hands of any problems if the hose fails and your kitchen floods.

Costly Repair Estimate

Purchased this unit from Lowes in March 2016. Did not purchase the extended warranty. The DW stopped spraying water recently. The repairman said the part to fix would cost $150 + $150 Labor. Paid $429 on sale. Not worth fixing. Sadly, time for a new dishwasher. Any brand new appliance should reasonably last more than 5 years with regular use.

We've used this dishwasher 12 months and it no longer will drain at the end of a cycle. You have to push the manual drain feature to empty the water. The repair man said it needs a new control board, which I bought from Whirlpool parts and installed. It still won't drain at the end of a cycle. I've spent $170 on service and replacement parts and still not close to getting it fixed. There's only 2 of us using this dishwasher. I've never had a Whirlpool appliance fail so quickly.

major repair required after only one year
disgruntled4sure
8/30/2018
We bought this to replace our 12 year old Kenmore machine that gave us faithful service until the end. The only repair we ever needed was to replace the utility baskets that had cracked. This machine was well reviewed (although I notice now that most of the positive reviews include caveats of reward for reviews) Since our kids have moved out, we hand wash our dishes unless entertaining, so the dishwasher gets little use, but we ran a load over the weekend and it didn't clean. Checked the filter, tried again, and the soap wasn't dispensing. Repairman came today and told us we need a new motor! OMG! I have never had a major appliance give up on us so quickly! Our washer and dryer are over 10 years old, our range is 14 years old! We do not wear out our appliances. The repairman told us the motor would cost $200 and the the repair would be nearly $300 which is more than half what we paid for the machine! I plan to contact whirlpool to get a motor shipped, and if they don't we will buy a new machine. It would be cheaper to go with name that we can depend on, then have to buy another new motor every two years like another reviewer.

Pump motor failed twice in three years
Aroppes
8/25/2018
My first pump motor failed within 10 months of ownership. The unit was still under warranty but still had to go through the inconvenience of downtime. Less than 2 years later the pump motor has failed again. in addition to that shortly after the unit was out of warranty the tubes that connect to the sprayers kept popping off. I would open the dishwasher and everything was still dirty and sure enough the tubes were flipped up because the retainer could not keep them down. I reached out to whirlpool and they deny that there is any problem with this model even though a quick search online will show that these pump motors fail all the time.

8/10/2018
As soon as the warranty ran out, the water pump failed. $350 later, I have a new water pump, which lasted SEVEN MONTHS!!!! The pump is still under warranty, but I'm out another $125 for the service call. Oh, and they use rubber bands to keep the door from falling down when you open it. They break after a few months as well. I'm on my fifth set at $6 each. This thing is pure garbage. I've paid for it twice over in repairs!!!!!
