Work horse washing machine

Soap - Use very little per load. Important rule!
If you use more than 2 of the measurements pictured the machine sensors will FAIL. Excess soap gets into a sensor tube and all functions become random and messed up.
To fix oversoap clogged sensor problem. Run an EMPTY load, Superwash, Extra rinse cycle enabled, and HOT water selected. No soap! Just Water. Let tub start to fill. Lift lid. Defeat the water sensor so a FULL water load is put into tub. This full cycle should and will clean/purge the soap clogged sensor so machine works like it did brand new.
If cycles are still not corrected after above completed - timer switch is next issue to look at. Try to realign the switch. Best done on soak cycle if you are able to do. I was able to realign the switch here. A replacement may be needed. Use only Original Part as OEM's switches had Horrible results.
My review is supported from a very knowledgeable technician and 2 visits to our home.
Machine is louder as it is DIRECT DRIVE. This makes the machine stronger and robust. The other option is pulley and belts which break and slip. This is NOT a pulley and belt washing machine.

Worst appliance I have ever bought

Purchased this machine about 4 years ago. Struggled with the sensor problem until I identified the problem by researching on the Web. Had that fixed. Currently, the machine has balance issues and now makes a loud thump when the spin cycle is finished. I am actually afraid to use it and am not interested in incurring any more
repair bills. Will be replacing it ASAP.

Rust
7/21/2017
Just bought this item used. While I was cleaning it up, I noticed areas where it is rusting; drum holes and under the top cover inside the washer. Wished I would have inspected it before buying but I have never had a washer rust on me before.

Poor performance and wastes water and energy

We've had this washer for about 6 years and it consistently uses wayyy more water than it should. The "auto load sensing" basically mean, fill the thing up to capacity with water! Even with a very small load. I'm aware that I shouldn't open the door once the machine starts filling, and I don't. But when I run a small load, I took a look toward the end of the cycle and the machine was full to the brim with water for just one bathroom mat. Ridiculously wasteful.I don't know how's this got Energy Star accreditation, but in this world, with dwindling resources, I can't imagine keeping this machine long-term.

We've had ongoing problems with balance even though we are carful to distribute the load evenly and now the control dial went out. Washers used to last 30 years and this is only 5. Also we are not able to control water level.

The auto load sensor switch failed after 3.5 yrs and again 4.8 years. Unnecessary bells and whistles that fail.

We bought this washer after doing a lot of research. We knew we didn't want a front loader or anything complicated, just something simple that could get the job done and this washer has exceeded our expectations.Consistently clean clothes and we love the auto-load sensing.I've also been able to use regular bleach even on color loads thanks to the very capable bleach compartment. We are getting ready to replace the water level sensor after 5 years of consistent use, but we expect to get many more years of service from this machine and would buy it all over again.

WISH I HAD OF REPAIRED MY OLDER MODEL, THEY DON'T MAKE THEM
SW1149

This machine was suppose to save me money due to the sensor that senses the exact water level to wash the load as oppose to setting a water level. I decided to buy the extended protection plan because i was not sure i would have faith in the auto sensing water level and 4 months before my warranty expired my machine would not work right. When I would start a load it would start adgetating my clothes before the water would start filling and if i did not choose the extra rinse, which I would end up having to do the extra rinse anyway, because when the normal cycle would finish, water would pour in at the end which would result in have to set it to spin again on the extra rinse cycle. Wish i could have my old machine back that lasted 10 - 12 years and just hire someone to repair it. :( Next time I have a great washer and dryer if they can be made like that anymore, and you know what i mean, they were diehards and no problems, i will pay to have it repaired.

Vibrates when in spin cycle. The machine jumps around when in the spin cycle because it is vibrating so hard. When you start the machine and forgot to add detergent or other cleaning products or add another small item the energy saving feature can't work, the weight become inacurate because the water becomes part of the weight measurement that controls the amount of water. Therefore, the tub fills with more water then is required and you have to add more detergent. Also, the laundry items become very twisted and tangled while washing and it is hard on the fabrics and the item can't wash properly. The water and detergents can't get to the fabic that is twisted and tangled. I recommend a Whirlpool front loader.

Water level problems

I know this machine is supposed to detect the right water level. I don't find that to be the case all the time. I have often opened the lid after it start washing, only to find there is not enough water to cover the laundry in there. I am rather concerned the motor will burn out soon. Once the lid is closed again, then it will fill with enough water. The real down side is, I have to stand there and "baby sit" the machine as it is located in the basement. Not like it is right off the kitchen and can pop in there quickly. The really odd thing is, sometimes it does work correctly. I have had a repair person look at it twice, and they can't fix it for some reason.

The Permanent Press wring cycle is the one I always use for my work clothes. It wrings them out just enough for me to hang them up and NO IRONING necessary. Love Love Love this feature. For my husbands work clothes I use the Heavy Duty cycle and it gets his grubby work jeans and shirts really clean.I do use the various temp cycles and fabric cycles. The delicate cycle does a good job of cleaning my delicate under-garments while leaving my wired foundations in tack. Have been very pleased with my Whirlpool for several years now and have not had any issues.Thank you,Janie A
